At Causemo, we take data protection seriously and have taken the necessary steps to become GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) compliant. In addition to meeting GDPR standards, we are applying policy and software updates to all users (including those outside the EU) and are committed to making future enhancements to ensure data is protected to the highest degree possible. How has Causemo prepared for the GDPR?
We’ve made updates to our product to be fully GDPR compliant.
  • We’ve updated Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy (below) , ma king it easier to understand how data is collected, stored, accessed and used.
  • We’ve appointed a DPO (Data Protection Officer) whose job is to keep you and your customers’ data safe, answer any questions you have about your data and maintain compliance with all applicable laws.
  • We’re updating Account Settings so our users can easily manage or opt-out of communication from Causemo.

Causemo Inc. recognizes that privacy is an important issue, so we design and operate our services with the protection of your privacy in mind. Please read the following to learn more about our Privacy Policy.

By visiting or using the Donee Apps or the Services, you acknowledge that you accept the practices and policies outlined in this Privacy Policy, and you hereby consent that we will collect, use, and share your information in the following ways.

The term "personal information" as used in this Privacy Policy refers to personally identifiable information that specifically identifies an individual (such as an individual's first and last name, address, telephone number or e-mail address), and information about that individual or such individual's activities or preferences (including such individual’s donor or cause-related history), when such information is directly linked to personally identifying information. Personal information does not include information relating to the organization with which an individual may be affiliated, such as the name and address of that organization. Personal information also Personal information also does not include "aggregate" information, which is data we collect from you, Donees, Donee App and Service users, or about the use of the Donee Apps or categories of Donee Apps users, from which any personally identifying information has been removed. We may create aggregate data from information we collect, including personally identifying information, and use such aggregate data for a number of purposes, including to provide products and services, including the Services, to you, Donees and other Causemo customers, to improve the Service, to diagnose technical issues, to help identify user needs so that we can better consider new products and services, to determine which types of users respond to certain causes and to target those users with offers based on that determination, , for research and analysis and product development and enhancement purposes and to tailor existing products and services to better serve our users. This Privacy Policy in no way limits or restricts our collection, use or disclosure of aggregate information.

How we collect and use information

We may collect the following types of information:

  • Information you provide. When you sign up for some of our products, we ask you for personal information. We may combine the information you submit under your account with information from other Causemo services or third parties in order to provide you with a better experience and to improve the quality of our services. For certain services, we may give you the opportunity to opt out of combining such information. We may use information you provide and that we may otherwise collect, including personal information, to create “aggregate”information.
  • Cookies. When you visit Donee Apps, we send one or more cookies to your computer or other device. We use cookies to improve the quality of our service, including for storing user preferences, improving products and ad selection, and tracking user trends, such as how people use our services. Causemo also uses cookies in its promotion and advertising services to help advertisers and publishers serve and manage promotions and ads.
  • Unique Device ID. Causemo offers publishers two methods that enable Causemo to measure user activity across the Causemo network of Donee Apps. The first method uses a hashed version of the unique device ID (a.k.a UDID or UUID) found on most mobile devices. The second option uses a server-generated anonymous network token. It is up to the publisher of the underlying application and/or web site to decide which method is more appropriate and consistent with their privacy policy. Either method allows Causemo to record activities including but limited to purchases, behavior within Donee Apps, and engagement with promotions and advertisements.
  • Log information. When you access Causemo services via a browser, application or other client our servers automatically record certain information. These server logs may include information such as your web request, your interaction with a service, Internet Protocol address, browser type, browser language, the date and time of your request and one or more cookies that may uniquely identify your browser or your account.
  • User communications. When you send email or other communications to Causemo, we may retain those communications in order to process your inquiries, respond to your requests and improve our services. When you send and receive SMS messages to or from one of our services that provides SMS functionality, we may collect and maintain information associated with those messages, such as the phone number, the wireless carrier associated with the phone number, the content of the message, and the date and time of the transaction. We may use your email address to communicate with you about our services.
  • Affiliated Causemo Services on other sites. We offer our services on or through other web sites. Personal information that you provide to those sites may be sent to Causemo in order to deliver the service. We process such information under this Privacy Policy.
  • Third Party Applications. Causemo may make available third party applications, such as mobile applications, gadgets or extensions, through its services. The information collected by Causemo when you enable a third party application is processed under this Privacy Policy. Information collected by the third party application provider is governed by their privacy policies.
  • Location data. Causemo offers location-enabled services, sometimes part of another application or game. If you use those services, Causemo may receive information about your actual location (such as GPS signals sent by a mobile device) or information that can be used to approximate a location (such as a cell ID).
  • Unique application number. Certain services include a unique application number that is not associated with your account or you. This number and information about your installation (e.g., operating system type, version number) may be sent to Causemo when you install or uninstall that service or when that service periodically contacts our servers (for example, to request automatic updates to the software).

In addition to the above, we may use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, maintain, protect, and improve our services (including advertising services) and develop new services; and
  • Protect the rights or property of Causemo or our users.

If we use this information in a manner different than the purpose for which it was collected, then we will ask for your consent prior to such use.

How we share your personal information

Causemo may share your personal information with other entities, including the Donee, publishing partners and cause organizations who use Causemo’s services. These entities may use your personal information to help fulfill your requests in connection with the Services and to help communicate with you about different resources offered as part of the Services. Also, our parent, subsidiary and affiliate companies, or entities to which any of our assets, products, sites or operations may be transferred, will be able to use your personal information. On occasion, Causemo may share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. If you would rather us not share your personal information with any third party for direct marketing purposes, please either (1) do not submit personal information to Causemo through the Donee Apps or (2) indicate your desire for us not to share your personal information with third parties for direct marketing purposes by submitting such a request in writing (an “Opt-Out Request”) to us at: Causemo Inc., 1 Grant Street, Framingham, MA 01701 Attn: Legal, or by emailing support@causemo.com. Please note that it may take time for us to comply with your Opt-Out Request and, in the interim, we may continue to use your personal information as described in this PrivacyPolicy. In addition, please note that after receiving your Opt-Out Request, we may continue to maintain your name and other personal information to help us ensure we can honor such request, to communicate to you about your account, and for other purposes not related to direct marketing. If we receive your Opt-Out Request after having shared your personal information with a third party, Causemo may not be able to control use of such personal information by such third party (or any other party to whom such third party may have transferred your personal information). In such an event you agree that Causemo shall not be responsible or liable, directly or indirectly, for damages or loss caused or alleged to be caused in connection with the use of such personal information by any such third party or resulting from any such transfer or disposition. If you are concerned about Causemo sharing your personal information with third parties or otherwise transferring or disposing your personal information, you should not provide your personal information to Causemo. We may also release your personal information to third parties if we believe such release is necessary (i) to comply with the law (e.g., a legal process or a statutoryauthorization), (ii) to apply or enforce our user agreements, (iii) to protect our rights or property, (iv) as part of a corporate reorganization, consolidation, merger, or sale of substantially all of the assets of Causemo, or (v) if we reasonably believe that a danger to any person requires disclosure of such personal information.

Please note that, while using the Services, you could be directed to other sites that are developed and administered by people or companies not affiliated with or controlled by Causemo. These other sites may place their own cookies on your computer, collect data or solicit personal information.

We suggest that when you link to another site you review that site's privacy policy, as it may be different from this Privacy Policy. Causemo is not responsible for the actions of those people or companies, the content of their sites, the use of information you provide to them, or any products or services they may offer. Our link to those sites does not constitute our sponsorship of, or affiliation with, those people or companies.

How we protect your personal information

Causemo Services uses reasonable efforts to protect your personal information against unauthorized access and unauthorized alteration, disclosure or destruction. However, we cannot guarantee that your personal information will be absolutely protected. For example, your personal information may be affected by actions outside of our control, such as computer "hacking" and physical theft. You acknowledge that you provide your personal information at your own risk.

Child-specific terms

Causemo understands that children's privacy is important. Causemo Services are not intended for use by children under 13 years old, and we do not intend to collect any personal information from children under 13. If you are under 13 years old, do not submit any personal information to Causemo.

Your California Privacy Rights

California residents who provide certain types of personal information in obtaining products or services for personal, family or household use are entitled to request and obtain from us once a calendar year information about certain types of personal information we shared, if any, with other businesses for their own direct marketing uses. To obtain this information, please send an email message to support@causemo.com with “Request for California Privacy Information” on the subject line and in the body of your message.

Do Not Track

The Services does not support Do Not Track with respect to the Services at this time. Do Not Track is a privacy preference that you can set in your web browser to indicate that you do not want certain information about your webpage visits collected across websites when you have not interacted with that service on the page. Changes to this privacy policy

We may change this Privacy Policy at any time. We will post all changes to this Privacy Policy on this page and will indicate at the top of the page the modified policy's effective date. We therefore encourage you to refer to this page on an ongoing basis so that you are aware of our current privacy policy.
